This course focuses on Graphical User Interface (GUI)design and development using the Java Foundation Classes (JFC). An overview of the Abstract Windowing Toolkit (AWT) will be covered. The major focus will be on using the Swing components.

  • Managing the look and feel of an user interface
  • Creating custom components
  • Understanding the Model View and Controller (MVC) design model
  • Adding flexibility with the MVC model
  • Working with Swing MVC components
  • Using Icons
  • Adding drag-and-drop and cut-and-paste features
  • Using localized resources for different languages and locales
  • Adding character encoding conversatino techniques
  • Working with tooltips
  • Laying out graphical user interfaces
  • Using AWT, Swing and JFC components
  • Controling keyboard and mouse operations
  • Creating hard copy output

Prerequisites

  • A solid understanding of Java fundamentals are required to successfully complete this course.
