Description 
This class will develop relational database design skills and techniques. An emphasis will be placed on design standards and developing proper design techniques. Students will be required to design multiple database models from business requirements and specifications. Understanding ramifications of designs from the application and database level will also be covered.

  • Techniques for avoiding poor database design
  • To apply pattern techniques to data design
  • How database designs impact performance
  • Host centric and client/server impacts on databases
  • Normalization and de-normalization techniques
  • Normalization impacts on performance and data management
  • How to design complex relationships such as recursive, exclusive, and subtype
  • Different types of database architectures
  • Referential and complex data integrity
  • How to convert a logical data model to a physical database model
  • Fundamentals of designing objects in object-relational databases
  • Design patterns
  • Introduction to Object-Relational concepts

Prerequisites
